I tried to get info on a model 10 and found most people telling me to buy the book. S&W puts out a book to look up manufacture dates. No one would look it up for me because they paid for the book and I did not. On a more serious note, if you lube the barrel enough you should have no problem dating your gun.There is some dispute regarding the dates on some serial numbers. Your gun may actually be a year off from what is listed.
